Mikhail Smirnov

    Born in 1978 in a village in Shakhunya, a town in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia. Since 1994 he takes active part in art exhibitions. In 2006, he graduated from the Moscow State Academy Art Institute named after Vassili Surikov in the studio of artist Pavel Nikonov and became a member of Moscow Union of Artists the same year. Following his graduation in 2006, he continued his studies at the University of Quebec in Montreal. The artist’s works were repeatedly awarded with diplomas of the Member Union of Artists. Since 2007 he is a grant-holder of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. He is an author of a number of articles on contemporary art. Smirnov’s works can be found in the collection of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, The Tula Museum of Fine Arts, Nizhniy Tagil State Museum of Fine Arts, at the Borovsky Art Centre, Modern Art Consulting, in the Moscow Union of Artists Fund Collections and in private collections in Russia, Kazakhstan, USA, Canada and China.
