Rostislav Barto

    (1902-1974) Painter, graphic artist. Born in Moscow, Russia. From 1992-1930 he studied at the Higher Artistic Technical Institute (VKhUTEIN). At first he enrolled in the department of graphic arts of V. Favorsky, I. Nevinky, P. Pavlinov and in 1926 he transferred to the painting department of A. Shevchenko, who shared the artists’ interest in experiments with monotypes. The same year he began taking part in exhibitions. He was a member of the association “The Workshop of Painters” and “Genisis.” Since 1933 he was a member of the Moscow Union of Artists. From 1933-1938 he solely took part in foreign exhibitions. His works are in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin Museum, the State Russian Museum and in private collections in Russia and abroad.
